Patrol officers perform the everyday task of patrolling the streets to prevent crimes and assist citizens in need. They are the first to respond to a variety of different calls for service, including crimes in progress or recently committed, suspicious activity, traffic violations and accidents, civil disputes and disorderly conduct, among others.
Each officer has completed police academy training and receives regular firearms and in-service training.
The Community Relations officer works closely with neighborhood schools and community organizations in order to proactively address conditions that may give rise to public safety issues, such as crime, drug use, social disorder, and fear of crime.
BHPD welcomes help from residents in preventing crime. If you notice a suspicious person, or anything that is strange or unusual call the police. In emergencies dial 911, for non-emergencies call 301-352-1200. The officers of the Berwyn Heights Police Department would rather you call and let us check on a situation then have a crime committed or someone get injured.
