Berwyn Heights Receives $100,000 State Grant for Lake Artemesia Connectivity Planning Project

The Town of Berwyn Heights is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $100,000 through the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) National Capital Strategic Economic Development Fund (NED) to support the Lake Artemesia Green Access & Connectivity Planning Project.

The grant will fund conceptual planning, engineering analysis, and community engagement activities focused on improving pedestrian and bicycle access, trail connectivity, safety, green infrastructure, and future parking opportunities associated with Lake Artemesia and surrounding corridors. The project area generally includes Lake Artemesia, 55th Avenue, Ballew Avenue, adjacent public rights-of-way, and connections to the Indian Creek Trail system.

The planning effort will evaluate opportunities to improve access points, pedestrian crossings, trail connections, streetscape enhancements, stormwater management, public gathering spaces, and other community-oriented improvements that strengthen connections between neighborhoods, parks, trails, and surrounding jurisdictions.

As part of this effort, the Town will actively seek community input through surveys, public meetings, and other engagement opportunities. Resident feedback will help guide recommendations and identify priorities for future implementation and grant funding opportunities.

Additional information regarding project milestones and opportunities for public participation will be announced in the coming months.
