The budget process begins in January of each year with department directors drafting their departments' budget requests for the upcoming fiscal year, which runs from July through June. The directors present their budget requests to the Council in February, and the Town Administrator presents a proposed budget to the Council in early March, taking the various budget requests into account. The Council undertakes a detailed review of the proposed budget through March and April and makes any changes it deems necessary or desirable. The Council's budget is introduced at the April Town meeting and adopted at the May Town meeting. At the June Town meeting the Council approves any amendments to current budget. Town residents are encouraged to give input throughout the budget process.
